"They need rest." Mauricio Pochettino names two Chelsea stars who will be dropped for the Blues' fixture against Luton Town following poor performance vs Crystal Palace
Mauricio Pochettino has named the two players who will be rested following their performance in the Crystal Palace game.
Chelsea bounced back from their Christmas Eve humbling by beating Crystal Palace 2-1 at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.Mauricio Pochettino named the Blues' youngest ever starting lineup in the Premier League era and they looked far more assured of themselves on their return to home soil.
The visiting Eagles put up a good fight but fell short at the last to ensure their miserable run against Chelsea continued. Mudryk scored the opener for Chelsea before Olise secured an equalizer in stroke of halftime. A late penalty from Madueke sealed Chelsea's win.
Although the team worked hard to ensure they went away with three points, two players were notably rusty against the magpies and appeared to be just not in the game at and per Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino who blamed it on "fatigue", believes both players will be rested for the Blues' coming fixture against Luton Town.
Both players are Nicolas Jackson and Moises Caicedo.
Although Nicolas Jackson did a lot going forward in the first half against Palace, bodied Palace defenders and brought others into play, his wastefulness was one aspect of his game play that would have cost Chelsea the game.
Moises Caicedo on the other hand whose Communication error with Colwill led to Palace grabbing an equaliser from nowhere. Sloppy in possession all night long.
One would most definitely agree with Pochettino that they both need rest given they have had more minutes of play since the start of the season. The introduction of Lavia into the Chelsea midfield seemed to bring a different quality, one that had not been seen in Caicedo for a long time. It's definitely time to give them rest.
With Lavia out with suspected injury, however, it remains to be seen who will replace Caicedo in the Blues' midfield against Luton Town.
